A rare opportunity to understand the night sky in a new and meaningful way is coming to Pipestone as science and culture come together!
Dr. Annette Lee, Lakota astrophysicist and Director of Native Skywatchers, will be at Pipestone National Monument on Saturday, March 21st, at 1:00 p.m. She’ll talk about the connection between the night sky and the sacred pipe in addition to the ways that Indigenous people have “traditionally practiced a sustainable way of living and sustainable engineering through a living and participatory relationship with the above and below, sky and earth.”
Dr. Lee is a professor, author, artist, and has co-curated several museum exhibits on Indigenous culture and astronomy. She aims to inspire “increased cultural pride,” “community wellness,” and “a rekindling or deepening sense of awe and personal relationship to the cosmos.” In just 1-hour, you’ll see the stars in an entirely new way!
