Join the Pipestone County Museum as Hannah Haksgaard, author, and Professor of Law, looks at the Homestead Act of 1862 and how it dealt with a specific group of women; deserted wives. These were the women who came west to homestead with their husbands, but found themselves, the marriage, and the homestead abandoned. The legal rights of deserted wives were unclear under the Homestead Act.
